Karla McAvoy, CFP®, MBA
Chief Compliance Officer | Senior Financial Advisor | Principal
Growing up, Karla McAvoy had wanted to be a doctor. She soon realized that she was too squeamish for the profession; however, her career as a financial advisor has still allowed her to tend to people’s well-being. She is gratified by those moments (and there are many) when she is able to replace a client’s stress about their money with confidence that they are going to be just fine.
As Chief Compliance Officer, Karla ensures that our firm remains compliant with state and federal laws and regulations. However, she particularly enjoys the relationships she gets to build with clients as she manages the day-to-day details of their finances on their behalf. She comes to know clients both professionally and personally, regularly working with multiple generations of the same family.
Even though her degree was in economics, Karla actually started her working life in software development. However, in the process of learning to manage her own growing family’s finances, she felt drawn to return to school and become a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional. She then worked for a couple of Bay Area financial planning firms before joining the team and eventually becoming a principal of HC Financial Advisors.
Outside of the office, the Danville resident spends times with her family and is a frequent school volunteer. She loves good novels, Giants baseball, and Golden State Warriors basketball. She also likes to travel, with Ireland, Costa Rica, Hawaii, and the Grand Canyon as her favorite destinations.
